I am entirely too tired to do any kind of serious analysis piece on the march today. I have no more insight to add other than that I thought it was awesome. It was wall-to-wall people of all ages and walks of life and the message was anti-Bush and anti-war with almost no exception.
Yes, there were moments of disorganization and frustration but given that it was about 500,000 people, I think it went wonderfully.
What follows is my photo journal with a few comments about each picture. Enjoy.
Like all good radical anti-war protestors, we started our day at Starbucks. I had coffee and a cinnamon scone - armed for marching.
Carne Asada Burrito introduces himself at Starbucks.
Damnit Janet and Carne Asada Burrito at the Starbucks.
On the way to the rally we saw this protestor and really dug her sign.
PastorDan tries to straighten the bloggers' marching banner.
When asked to pose "like a married couple", this is what PastorDan and MrsPastor chose as representative.
MrsPastor distributes the cookies.
The bloggers start to arrive - represented were Kossacks, MyLeftWingers, BooTribbers, ePMers, and Street Propheteers.
We get our shit together long enough to pose for a group picture - thanks to ElizabethD for ensuring this happened.
Crowd shots at the outer edges of the rally. This doesn't approach giving an appreciation as to how many people were there - people were everywhere.
We make our way to the corner of 15th and Constitution and line up to march.
One of the signs in our delegation.
Another sign seen while waiting to start the march - the picture doesn't it do it justice - it was a great glossy poster of the Administration modelled after a Godfather-like movie promotion.
We pass some college students protesting the war, using their signs to cover the signs of the very small wingnut contra-protest contingent.
We saw this guy about 1/3 of the way into the march route.
The dignitaries, including Cindy Sheehan and Jesse Jackson, marched right along with us.
Not sure what this was about, but love the suit.
Even babies know the war has to end.
And finally, this gentleman reminds us something that's important.
Hope y'all enjoy it.

Great photos. Glad you were there.
500k? Are you kidding?
The congressman in Reston is Jim Moran. Moran said in Reston at his Town Hall meeting last week that "I opposed this war from the beginning" but he does not want to bring troops now.
Moran is not a sponsor of H.J. 55, which Ron Paul, Dennis Kucinich and others have introduced. It calls for President Bush to present a plan by the end of this year to remove troops. It also says withdrawals should start by October 2006.
Are you satisfied with our Congressman's position?

GEA3: not kidding but guestimating. 500K is likely high. I believe official #s have it at about 100K. The unofficial (watchdog) numbers have it at 250-300K. Anyone hear any other numbers??
Nice photos -- great job! I especially like the Bush "I'll save you like I saved Iraq" one.
I'm gonna post that one on my blog and then link to you for people to get the other photos, if that's ok. Let me know.
I WAS THERE AND NOW I AM CONVINCED THAT INVADING IRAQ AND STOPPING THE MASS GRAVES AND THE RAPE ROOMS, TORTURE OF WOMEN AND THE KILLING OF KURDS WITH CHEMICAL WEAPONS WAS THE WRONG THING FOR THE UK AND USA TO DO.SHAME ON BUSH AND BLAIR.LETS DO IT THE CLINTON-GORE WAY AND IGNORE CRIMES OF HUMANITY
I was THERE, and an estimate of of 500,000 is not at all off the mark. I've been to rallies where there were under 100,000 and to ones where there were 100,000+ and my guestimate is around 500,000.
Here's the poop on the 100,000 figure--that's the amount listed on the permit. When the policeman said *yeah, I think they hit that*-- he was being sarcarstic-- as in--they hit than at about 10am. No news site that I've looked at so far is saying anything over 100,000 (except the organizers and the people who were there, who can freely say so)-- the *officials* have to stick to 100,000 because that's the legal limit. If they admit that 500,000 people were packed into the city they open themselves up to all kinds of liability. Legally, if it were possible for them to control the numbers, they would have only allowed 100,000 to stay for the event. The news media COULD be so bold as to make their own eye witness estimate, but without some *official* say-so, they'll never stick their heads out that far for the truth. This is America, afterall.
Mars,
Thanks - that's a good explanation. You saw the helicopters overhead, right? Weren't they doing crowd estimates?? And any idea what they sponsors are saying?

Very good post! In Holland we are only informed by Dutch media that mainly pick up stories from CNN and the like. Here's an inside story and ofcourse with that *pinch* of honesty the media just seem to miss. Good job on this.
great post and love the pics! later;)
Congratulations on making the CNN blog roundup! And the photos are great.
Thanks again,
